Is the Dodge Avenger Check Engine Light a False Alarm?
If your Avenger’s MIL illuminates and then goes out, it usually means the fault was intermittent—fuel cap leaks, minor misfires or EVAP issues are common. The light is rarely “false”; the PCM only switches it on after detecting a real deviation.
- Scan the PCM for stored or pending codes even if the light turned off.
- Check the fuel cap, ignition coils, spark plugs and vacuum hoses.
- Monitor Mode $06$ data for misfire counts—intermittent misfires may not trigger a steady light.
